1. General Questions

What kind of driver’s license is required?

Participants must have a valid motorcycle license. International Participants: if your license allows you to legally ride the same type of bike in your home country, then the motorcycle license from your country is sufficient and you don’t have to get an international driver’s license.

Are there any other requirements for participating in a tour?

The minimum age to ride a motorcycle as part of our tours is 21 years. There is no age limit for passengers, however the passenger must be able to reach the passenger foot pegs or floorboards of the bike. You should have at least one year of riding experience on motorcycles similar to the size of the motorcycles we use for our tours.

What is the difference between the three price levels for each tour?

icon_people2 icon_vehicle2 icon_room With this package, you still have your own bike but will share a room with another Participant (double occupancy). We will of course try to match you up with a friend or your significant other if you book as a group. If the tour is not booked as a group, availability of this package is subject to us being able to match you up with another Participant.
icon_people2 icon_vehicle icon_room You will be sharing a room (double occupancy) and a bike with another Participant. This package is most popular with friends or couples where one person does not have a proper motorcycle license. If the tour is not booked as a group, availability of this package is subject to us being able to match you up with another Participant.

All packages are subject to availability and all bookings have to be confirmed by us in writing.

What kind of hotels will I be staying at?

Our goal is to create an authentic experience for our guests and wherever possible and practical, we avoid mass-tourism accommodation and pick hotels or motels with a special charm and a character that is unique to each location. Sometimes though our choices are limited and we have to choose more “standard fare” or rustic hotels/motels, especially when we overnight close to National Parks.

What kind of motorcycle will I be riding?

All motorcycles are late-model bikes. Subject to availability, you can chose between the following options:

  1. Triumph Bonneville or Thruxton for their nimble handling and classic 1960ies look.
  2. Harley-Davidson Sportster or Nightster. Compared to the “typical” big Harley, these bikes are lighter and easier to handle. Not recommended if two Participants share a bike.
  3. If you are interested in a different kind of bike, like a Sport-Tourer or a bigger, heavier Harley-Davidson, we can provide those as well (in some cases an additional fee applies). Please make a note on the booking inquiry form.

Most of the bikes are available with medium-sized saddlebags and a windscreen, so please let us know your preferences during booking and we will try to accommodate them. Specific bike models and equipment are subject to availability.

How is the motorcycle insured?

The motorcycles come with liability insurance according to state statutory limits. Supplemental liability insurance as well as Theft and Damage Waivers can be purchased during booking or at check-in. All insurance, coverage and waivers are subject to the express terms and conditions of the rental agreement. We recommend that Participants take out adequate travel, health and accident insurance as well as trip cancellation insurance with their own agents.

What happens if a bike breaks down?

You will be riding a late-model bike so a breakdown is extremely unlikely. If a bike breaks down, we will either fix the bike locally or, if necessary, deliver a replacement bike (we reserve the right to replace the bike with a different model).

How does the motorcycle security deposit work?

At the time of motorcycle pick-up a security deposit will be taken on the participant’s credit card, and the amount held will be unavailable against the credit card available balance until after the return of the motorcycle at which time, with no charges due, the security deposit amount will drop off of the credit card automatically. The security deposit amount is between $100 and $3,000 depending on the type of Theft and Damage Waiver that is being purchased by the tour participant.

Can I take a Motorcycle across International borders?

The motorcycles are not permitted to leave the United States unless authorized by us in writing.

What if I want to book a custom tour?

We are happy to create a custom tour for you. Custom Tours will be quoted and priced on an individual basis. Please note that a Quoting Fee may apply.

The rate for the service depends on the distance and the weight of the suitcase but rates start around $50 a piece (suitcase) to send to another location.
